General Information

Your doctor arranges admission to National Capital Private Hospital.

For elective admissions you will be given appropriate forms to complete and return to the hospital prior to your admission.

For more urgent or immediate admission the documentation can be completed after your arrival.

Our admission staff will be available to assist you and your family.

Our Bookings Manager will let you know what time to arrive, and fasting time if you are scheduled for surgery.

The admissions staff will contact you to confirm these details on the evening before your admission to hospital.


National Capital Private Hospital provides both private and shared room accommodation.

Each room has a modern ensuite, and all of our private and shared rooms have personal televisions, telephones and nurse call facilities. Local calls are free of charge and phone cards for mobile calls/STD calls can be purchased from the reception desk.

Our facilities include:

  • Chapel and religious services
  • Climate controlled temperature
  • Direct dial telephones
  • Interpreters
  • Private ensuites attached to all patients rooms
  • Television
  • Visitor and disabled parking.


We will talk to you about going home from the day you arrive, we commonly refer to it as "discharge planning."

The rehabilitation team will talk to you about coping at home and will assist you to access services if you need them.

Coping at home can be a huge adjustment, it may be hard to transfer the skills you have learnt in rehab to your home environment.

Discharge planning may include:

Occupational Therapy (OT) Home visit: a visit to your home with the Occupational Therapist to assess your ability to safely access all areas of your home environment. Home modifications and equipment will be arranged if necessary.

Services: we can assist you to arrange home support services such as showering assistance, community nursing, cleaning assistance, meals on wheels etc.

Outpatient referrals: referral for follow up physiotherapy or occupational therapy services as an outpatient.

If you are recovering from surgery your Surgeon will also need to see you for a post operative check up.

As a Department of Veterans’ Affairs Veteran partnering hospital, DVA patients have access to our care, without the need for prior approval in most cases.

We also provide help and support through our Veteran Liaison Officer.

If you require any specific needs such as cultural, spiritual or dietary, please inform the nursing staff upon your admission.

An interpreter service is available on request.

We provide chaplaincy and pastoral serices and are happy to access this service on your behalf.

The National Capital Private Hospital is recognised by all major health funds who will reimburse treatment costs depending on your level of coverage.

We can provide you with an estimate of hospital charges and outline the level of cover by your fund and any out-of-pocket expenses you may incur.

Prior approval is sought for compensable patients (i.e. Comcare, Department of Defence, Third Party and Department of Veterans' Affairs).

For uninsured patients, private payment is also accepted.

We realise hospital and related charges can sometimes be difficult to understand, so please ask for assistance as we are most happy to help you.

If required the staff of our pre-admission clinic will contact you prior to your day of admission by phone or they may request that you make a brief visit to the hospital at a mutually convenient time.

They will discuss your care before and after surgery, let you know what time to arrive and what items to bring with you.

They will also be able to answer any questions or address any concerns that you may have about your stay with us.

On arrival, please visit our main reception staff to complete the admission processes.

Current medications

Please bring all of your current medications in the original packaging or dosette boxes i.e. pills, tablets, inhalers, injections, ointments, creams, vitamins or homeopathic medicines.

Other items

  • Any of your relevant x-ray or ultrasound films
  • Personal nightwear including slippers
  • Toiletries if staying overnight i.e. soap, shampoo, toothpaste
  • Shoes with non-slip soles and low heels
  • Books, magazines, laptops, iPads, iPods etc.

The hospital does not assume responsibility for personal items. You are responsible for their safe storage.

We also request that you do not bring valuables such as jewellery or large amounts of cash.

The National Capital Private Hospital provides Wi-Fi facilities to patients.
